90-minute fun masterclass that will combine creative ways to use theraband, magic circle and small inflatable (chi) balls with imagery. The majority of the class will be based on additions to the generally accepted mat repertoire- traditional work as taught in contemporary classes. There will also be a component of additional exercises that would complement a mat class using the props that are not specifically Pilates but Pilates-inspired.
The use of the props will enhance understanding of the repertoire already learned. It will challenge the participants to think critically about what is being acheived rather than simply using a prop for the novelty factor. The class will challenge the participants to ask “why am I using this prop?” and “what value does this prop add to the class?”
Understand that props can both assist and challenge existing repertoire in different ways
Give teachers creative options when teaching kinesthetic learners to improve proprioceptive awareness
Help bring visual cues to life via the feedback the props provide
Access movement that is usually only availble on the Pilates apparatus by using the small props (especially magic circle and theraband)
Adding to the teacher’s toolkit- the class will contain sequencing ideas that can be incorporated immediately into classes as well as additional Pilates inspired exercises that will complement existing mat repertoire
