Juan Nieto PT, DO, PMA-CPT has been developing his career as movement therapist and trainer since 2002. Initially he started working intensively as manual therapist. This experience led him to explore the movement-related sciences as complement for his treatments.
He became a Polestar® Pilates certified instructor in 2003 when he discovered the true potential of the Pilates method as a rehabilitation technique. From then Juan has been focused researching and developing therapeutic and performance applications within the Pilates environment.
In 2004, Juan co-founded SLINGS and manages movement studios in Madrid and Barcelona.
In 2009 he debuted as Polestar® educator and licensee for Spain. During the last 10 years Juan is a frequent international lecturer specialized in rehabilitation through movement and athletic performance.
In 2016 Juan founded Runity, a new start-up born to revolutionize the way the world runs. After thousands of hours of experience, research, study and education, Juan has defined his very particular way to address treatments and trainings, based in three principles:
MASTERCLASS: Awesome Running 101 (2hrs)
You probably already know that humans are designed to run which is absolutely right. However being designed to run and being ready to run are two very different things.
This 2-hour workshop will teach you why this is the case as well as giving you the tools to make your running practice more efficient, less prone to injury and more fun. The workshop is 100% practical but packed with information that you can immediately take away to use for yourself and/or your clients. You will learn exercises for your feet and hips that will change how you walk and stand as well as improving your running. You will also explore Runity’s unique take on how to awaken your body’s individual reactivity and learn the importance of tempo which many runners may unknowingly be missing.
WORKSHOP: Movement Unchained (4hrs)
As movement professionals it’s easy to get stuck teaching certain exercises that our clients follow obediently. This is a great way to convey and learn a basic movement vocabulary, but what happens after those movement skills are developed? Are the same exercise patterns the best way to keep growing? The truth is that once you’ve already learnt something, repeating it won’t make it to improve anymore. In this introductory workshop, instead of planned exercises we will explore task-oriented movement. Using tactical games, improvisation and partnering, you will discover different ways of using your body to solve a problem. Unchained the movement inside you and get yourself ready to expand your movement boundaries. The workshop consists in four different sessions:
WORKSHOP: Training Smarter AND Harder (4hrs)
During the last two decades, motor control, biomechanics and ergonomics have been considered for many as the primary source of injuries. However, recent evidence is showing that is workload the most influential variable in overuse musculoskeletal injuries. What is even more interesting, is that the very same workload that can provoke injuries, when is managed correctly, becomes our most powerful tool for prevention, rehabilitation and performance. During the workshop, you will learn how to measure and monitor load to optimize the progress of your training programs. We will also explore creative ways of adapting Pilates exercises for athletes and higher level performers.
The workshop consists in two different sessions:
WORKSHOP: Evidence-based Pilates for CLBP (Chronic Low Back Pain) – 12hrs (over 2 days)
This workshop introduces the most updated evidence-based interventions in the management of clients with a history of Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP). The CLBP is a multidimensional problem, that’s why we will review the most influential contributing factors to create effective strategies to improve client’s function and quality of life.
Movement, motor learning, biomechanics, neuroscience, workload management, communication skills and of course Pilates, will be our allies to successfully achieve the best results dealing with
